Unemployment Rate
The unemployment rate can be described using the national definition, the ILO harmonized definition, or the OECD harmonized definition. According to the OECD harmonized measure, it is calculated as the proportion of unemployed individuals within the labor force, which includes both employed and unemployed individuals. [Source: OECD Main Economic Indicators, OECD, monthly] The International Labour Organization defines unemployed individuals as those who are not currently employed but are ready and able to work, available to start work, and have actively sought employment.
