Structural Types of Dwellings:
1. Single-Detached House
A single-detached house stands alone, unattached to any other structure except its own garage or shed. Surrounded by open space, it has no other dwellings above or below it. Notably, a mobile home permanently fixed to a foundation also falls under this category.
2. Semi-Detached House
This type comprises two dwellings connected side by side or back to back. A semi-detached house has open space on all sides and no units above or below it. Each unit is independent except for its shared wall with the adjoining home.
3. Row House
Also known as townhouses or garden homes, row houses consist of three or more units joined side by side or occasionally side to back. They do not have other units above or below. Even when attached to a high-rise building, these homes retain their classification as row houses.
4. Apartment or Flat in a Duplex
A duplex consists of two dwellings, one located above the other. This category also includes duplexes attached to other structures, such as triplexes, stores, or other non-residential buildings.
5. Apartment in a Building with Five or More Storeys
This category encompasses units in high-rise apartment buildings with five or more storeys. These buildings may include commercial establishments on the first or second floors, but the residential units above them fall within this classification.
6. Apartment in a Building with Fewer than Five Storeys
These units are located in buildings with fewer than five storeys and may share the structure with commercial spaces or other non-residential units.
7. Other Single-Attached House
This refers to single dwellings attached to a non-residential structure (e.g., a store or church) or occasionally to another residential building like an apartment complex. These houses do not align with any other defined category.
8. Mobile Home
Designed for transportation on its chassis, a mobile home can be relocated quickly and easily. While it may rest temporarily on a foundation pad, it remains distinct due to its mobility. A mobile home meets two key criteria:
- It is designed for transport on its base frame in one piece.
- It can be relocated without significant reconstruction, requiring only disconnection from services and attachment to a wheel assembly.
9. Other Movable Dwelling
This category includes dwellings such as tents, travel trailers, houseboats, or floating homes. These are not mobile homes but are still capable of being relocated on short notice.
